Terms of Service

Effective November 5, 2026

The short version

Agreeing to these terms

By creating an account or playing Stare Down (“the game”), you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don’t agree, don’t use the game.

Who can play

You must be at least 18 years old. You must give us true information when you sign up, including your birthday. You are responsible for your account and for keeping your password safe. One person, one account.

How the game works

Stare Down pairs you with another player. Only a cropped strip of your eyes is shared with your opponent, live, and only while a match is running. The game’s referee, which runs on our servers, decides who lost, whether a stare was a draw, and how ratings change. Its decisions are final. Friend matches are unranked and don’t change your rating, history or achievements.

How you must behave

You agree not to:

What we can do

We can warn you, reset your rating, remove achievements, suspend your account or delete it if we believe you broke these terms, or if we need to for safety or legal reasons. We may do this without notice when the breach is serious. You can delete your own account at any time in Settings, and that erases your profile, rating, achievements and match history.

Reporting and blocking

If another player breaks these rules, you can report them in the game, during or after a match, and block them so you are never paired with them again. Reports come to us and we may act on them as described above. Please only report in good faith.

Your account and content

You own your account details. You give us the right to show your username, rating and match results to other players, and to stream your eye strip to your opponent during a match. We don’t record or store match video. See the Privacy Policy for what we keep.

The game is provided as is

We work to keep the game running, but we can’t promise it will always be available, accurate or free of errors. Face tracking can be wrong: it may count a blink that didn’t happen or miss one that did. Matches can end early if a connection drops. To the extent the law allows, we aren’t responsible for indirect losses or for problems caused by things outside our control, such as your device, camera or network. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have by law that can’t be limited.

Changes

We may update these terms. If a change is significant, we’ll tell you in the game before it takes effect. Using the game after a change means you accept it.
